Travels of a Generic Christian

A Christian shares the joy of his walk with the Lord Jesus Christ.

Do not stifle the Holy Spirit. Do not scoff at prophecies, but test everything that is said. Hold on to what is good. Stay away from every kind of evil. 1 Thessalonians 5:19-22

To Ponder for the New Year

Of which are you more sure?

A) That you have Jesus Christ and that He has you as one of His sheep.

or

B) That you have the truth about what it means to have Jesus Christ.

Christ has me. My grasp on Him is slippery at best, but His arms are strong and His hands are quick to save.

It would seem that one must have both. Many think they have Jesus but according to Mt. 7:21,22 they really don't.
Isn't it through hearing and abiding in the truth, (which happens to be Jesus(Jn. 14:6))through His power, that we have the assurance.
It just seems like the two statements are inseparable.
A)alone could lead to a faults hope because we are carnally minded
B) Could lead to a intellectual religion that could be faithless.

Hmm

Hi Matt,

Glad you stopped by.

I agree that, ultimately, the two statements are inseparable. But perhaps I could answer the question for myself to give you an idea of what it was, exactly, that I was trying to get at:

I finally learned to first and foremost trust Jesus--to do so in theory (thought) and in action. Once this reliance upon the Lord became firm I realized that if I happen to be wrong regarding things ABOUT Him, he will lead me aright--according to His timescale insomuch as I am capable of properly handling new facts about Him. I trust in Him to do this.

If I cannot trust Him to do this--if I cannot "safely" seek first the heart of God (with nothing but utter honesty to guide me concerning the things told to me about Him), come to know Him, and THEN trust Him to teach me more and more of the details ABOUT Him, then I fear that Christianity must be nothing more than another religion of the flesh--just another religion that has its foundation in a decision regarding things ABOUT God--a foundation laid while one is still "on the outside". No, my God is real, and He is far greater than the gods of the pagans with which, in such a mindset, He would actually be in competition.
